product description

Chlorine Dioxide CAS#10049-04-4

Chlorine Dioxide (CAS# 10049-04-4), with the molecular formula ClO₂ and a molecular weight of 67.45. Under normal temperature and pressure, it appears as a yellowish-green to orange-yellow gas with a pungent odor. In liquid form, it is a reddish-brown liquid, and in solid form, it is an orange-red crystal. Because pure gas concentration exceeding 10% is prone to explosion, it is mostly applied in the form of stable chlorine dioxide solution or on-site preparation.

Product Usage

Wood-pulp bleaching is the largest use of chlorine dioxide, which is a uniquely selective oxidizer for lignin.  In general, the trend in the pulp industry has been to eliminate chlorine and hypochochlorite as bleaching agents and replace them with chlorine dioxide.
